Leave It To The Pros

To Do Or Delegate

I am a strong advocate for Do-It-Yourselfers, because I am one myself. I’ve taught myself to do all sort of things from hair, to nails, to sewing. These skills did not come over night, and some still need a bit of work. It took a whole lot of practice, time and trial and error to get it as close to professional quality as possible. Though I save a few dollars now, it took quite a few wasted dollars over the years to get the results I could be proud to show. Learning new things can be a lot of fun, but I have found that as my business grows, my free time shrinks. The free time that I do have, must be utilized wisely. So it is well-worth the extra money and saved time to go to the pros; this is especially true in relation to business.

Definitely Delegate

Yes, there are many things even within my business that I could do myself, but I ‘d much rather spend my time with research to keep myself up-to-date with industry trends, updating my portfolio, increasing efficiency in my processes, further advancing my design skills, or educating others in branding. Why?… because my time is valuable and I’d much rather spend it advancing the services people actually pay me for. Despite my history in construction and home repair, if I have water leaking from the ceiling, I’m not going to get up there and cut a hole to search for the problem, nor will I visit “YouTube University” for a refresher course. I’m going to grab a bucket and call a professional and pay him to fix it.

If it needs to look professional, then by all means get a professional to do it.

Your Time Is Valuable

The rule of thumb that I stand by is, if it is personal, go for it. However, if it is for your business or ministry, it will be presented to others and is meant to look professional, by all means, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL. If you can’t afford it, save up your money but don’t compromise quality. First impressions are lasting impressions so it is better to present yourself professionally. If your do-it-yourself project, be it a website, marketing campaign or logo doesn’t look professional or operate properly, it’s going to negatively affect your ability to connect with and maintain connections to the customers you desire to service or members you desire to reach. Remember, your time is valuable, but so is your image.
