The Risk Of Using Free Fonts And Images For Logo Design

What The Average Person Overlooks

One important aspect of branding is the design of your logo; it helps with brand awareness and brand recognition. This is an aspect that I find a lot of people take lightly. They may not want to invest much in this area so they get AI to create something or they find stock images and choose a random font. The downside of this is that they don’t take into account that the fonts and stock images may only be free for personal use and not for commercial use. This means that they don’t legally have permission to use them for commercial use, and if they do use them for their business, they may likely receive a copyright infringement notice in the form of a cease and desist letter.

Protect Your Brand And Hire A Pro

If you allow AI to produce your logo, you may end up with something that is a little too similar to someone else’s. The safest thing you can do, is to hire a professional who will do their research, is familiar with proper licensing and who can create a more original design. Doing it yourself may be okay when you first start, because you are “under the radar” so to speak, but this is not a guarantee. As your business grows and you start to get more recognition, trust and believe that the owners of those images and fonts are going to want you to compensate them for using their property without their permission.
